I would discourage form letters. Use this as a GUIDE only. Change
the wording to reflect YOU and make it personal. It is better to send
a short personal letter than a longer form letter. Sending a post-card
is another option.

Dear Senator (Name) or Representative (Name):
IN THE BEGINNING SAY WHY YOU ARE WRITING THIS LAWMAKER, SUCH
AS:
I am writing as a concerned constituent regarding SB 110, which
creates a Board of Massage Therapists and provides for licensure.
IN THE MIDDLE SAY WHY THIS IS IMPORTANT TO YOU, SUCH AS:
As a massage therapist, I believe that passage of this bill will
adversely affect my profession (or “as a consumer, I believe
that I have the knowledge to make my own health care choices”).
The stated intent of the bill, protection of the public, is a noble
one. However, it portrays massage as dangerous, which it is not.
Research and State of Georgia reports do not support any claims
of client injury by massage therapy. The bill calls for regulation
based on this false premise. This regulation, and its resulting
inconveniences and expense to the State, consumers and therapists,
is unwarranted and simply not needed. An alternative bill, HB 680,
the “State Planning for Increased Community Access Act”
would allow for self-regulation of massage therapy and other safe
natural therapies. This bill will protect the public through disclaimers,
disclosures, and a patient’s bill of right, without the unnecessary
regulation and expense called for in SB 110.
YOU MAY WANT TO INSERT A SHORT PERSONAL STORY HERE.
AT THE END ASK FOR WHAT YOU WANT, SUCH AS:
Please protect my right to make my own educated choices by opposing
SB 110 and supporting HB 680. Thank you for your time; I await your
response.
Sincerely,
